SMAS Requirements Checker — Spot Gaps Before You Apply

Check your documents against SMAS Worksafe SSIP requirements before applying. Spot gaps early and fix them before spending your application fee.

What SMAS / SSIP Covers

SMAS Worksafe assesses against the SSIP (Safety Schemes in Procurement) core criteria. These are the key evidence areas:

Health & Safety Policy (signed, dated, with named competent person)
Risk Assessments (task and site specific)
RAMS — Risk Assessments & Method Statements
Employers' Liability Insurance (minimum £5m)
Public Liability Insurance (minimum £2m)
Training Records and Trade Competency Evidence
COSHH Assessments (where applicable)
Accident Reporting Procedures
Fire and First Aid Arrangements

Common Gaps Found in SMAS Applications

Expired insurance certificates

SMAS checks expiry dates — an expired certificate is an immediate fail.

Unsigned H&S Policy

A policy without a director or senior manager signature is not accepted.

No RAMS provided

RAMS are mandatory for most trade categories. Generic templates are rejected.

Training not matching declared trade

If you declare roofing but only have general CSCS cards, this raises a gap.

How NAS Checks Your Documents

NAS assessments read your actual uploaded documents, not just self-declarations. Missing documents, expired certificates, unsigned policies and evidence that doesn't match your trade are flagged with a clear explanation, and a qualified assessor signs off every finding.
